Something for the weekend - Stirling Sports Premiership - Round 3 Preview

Wellington Phoenix v Tasman United
Saturday 5th November
Westpac Stadium, Wellington
4:15pm (TV game)

The curtain raiser to the A-League game between Wellington Phoenix and Newcastle Jets. Tasman United looking for their 1st ever win. The Weenix have started the season with 2 impressive performances, including snatching a late winner in the Wellington derby last weekend.

League position : Weenix 6th, Tasman 8th
Last season : The first ever league meeting between these teams.
They did meet pre season in Nelson when the Weenix won 1-0

My pick : As much as I'd like to say Tasman I think the Weenix have been looking impressive and will win this 2-1

Hawkes Bay United v Team Wellington
Sunday 6th November
Bluewater Stadium, Napier
KO 1pm

Defending champions Team Wellington are still looking for their 1st win under new coach Jose Figuero. Hawkes Bay United have started the season with a  win and a loss

League position : Hawkes Bay United 5th, Team Wellington 10th
Last season : a 2-2 draw, Team Wellington also beat Hawkes Bay United 3-1 in the semi final at Bluewater Stadium

Stat chat : Since the "franchise" league started in 2004, Hawke's Bay United have only ever beaten Team Wellington once at home (3-0 in the 2012-13 season)

My pick : Team Wellington to keep up their impressive winning record in Napier and get their first win 3-2

Waitakere United v Southern United
Sunday 6th November
Fred Taylor Park, Auckland
KO 2pm

Waitakere United stunned everyone with a 1-0 win over rivals Auckland City, before losing 3-1 to Hawkes Bay United and then beating newcomers Wanderers 2-0 last week.
Southern United are still waiting to see if their 5 Irish imports will make an impact and yet to record a win

League position : Waitakere United 3rd, Southern United 9th
Last season : Waitakere United thrashed Southern United 6-0

Stat chat : It is almost a full calendar year since Southern United last won a game
(29th Nov 2015 1-0 v Weenix)

My pick : Waitakere United will be too strong 5-1

Hamilton Wanderers v Eastern Suburbs
Sunday 6th November
Porritt Stadium
KO 2pm

Two of the three newcomers to this seasons league. Eastern Suburbs are already one of only 2 unbeaten clubs, while Wanderers have started the season with a win and a loss

League position: Wanderers 7th, Eastern Suburbs 2nd

Last season : These clubs met in the Northern League Premier division where Eastern Suburbs won 1-0

Stat chat : In the 21 previous meeting between these clubs there has never been a draw
Eastern Suburbs have won 16 time while Wanderers have won 5

My pick : Eastern Suburbs will do just enough to see of Wanderers 2-1

Auckland City v Canterbury United
Sunday 6th November
Kiwitea Street, Auckland
KO 3pm

After a surprise 1-0 loss to rivals Waitakere City, Auckland City have bounced back with a vengeance, recording two 4-0 victories over Team Wellington & Tasman United.
Canterbury United are one of the two unbeaten teams left having drawn 2-2 with Tasman United and beaten Southern United 3-1

League position : Auckland City 1st, Canterbury United 4th
Last season : Auckland City won 4-1

Stat chat : In Canterbury United's last 5 visits to Kiwitea Street they have scored 1 goal every time

My pick : Auckland City will be too strong and get another 4  goals 4-1
