Best Moment of last season

Has to be the three game winning run in Dec/Jan last year. Team was playing some top football and three very good results, The 4-0 home win over Hamilton Wanderers was particularly impressive. Tore them apart

Worst Moment of last season

The fact that after that winning run we got nothing from our last seven games was probably the most disappointing thing. The 4-0 loss to Eastern Suburbs away particular disappointing. A TV game and never fired a shot, completely outplayed.
Oh and 3-1 loss at home (incidentally in our only other TV game) where Canterbury just wiped us of the park was also rough. Hate losing to those guys!

What did you Liked \ Disliked about last season?

Liked
-The new kit, classy
-That there did seem to be some serious effort to engage with community
- The addition of some younger promising locals later in the season

Disliked
-The amount of imports. Some of them did look to go OK, but the argument for keeping Southern in the league despite some poor seasons has been about the pathway. When you have six Irish players starting, who didn't show much more than locals in my view, certainly not enough to be competitive, it's hard to claim the pathway and also hard for fans to connect
-The ground! playing at a club rugby ground in Mosgiel did nothing for me, glad that's been culled this season
- and obviously the results.

How will you do this season?

Hard to say. With majority of initial squad not from the local competition I don't know a huge amount about them. Always skeptical of why players from further north are coming here for National League (ie not good enough to make home side). Top 4 should be the aim, in that if it's not we shouldn't be there. Don't think it will happen. Optimistically if we can average a point a game and get around 7th-8th then that's  a good result! Wouldn't be surprised if it's more of the same.

Player to watch

Hayato Wakino - very skillful Japanese player who had a great winter season in the (Southern) Premier League. Always a big step up but he'll go alright

What song best sums up your club?

Living on a prayer - Bon Jovi. Because I can't count the number of times we've been 'halfway there' and not quite pushed on or being punished for silly lapses.
And realistically, I suspect we could do with a prayer or two this season!

 WOODEN SPOON WINNERS

Clear favourite here and no surprise, 70% of respondents are picking Southern United to pick up their 4th consecutive wooden spoon. Three others got a nomination, although I suspect the vote for Canterbury United was driven by rivalry, Wellington Phoenix Reserves and Tasman United were the others

Best Moment of last season

Season opener v Auckland City at Farrington field. Anytime a team gets a result v Auckland City in this league is a cause for celebration

Worst Moment of last season

Hammered by Hawke's Bay United at home. Just woeful (Lost 7-2)

What did you Liked \ Disliked about last season?

Liked
- Having a National League to watch
- Having two Wellington teams so there is Handy Prem every weekend

Disliked
-You are too far away from the pitch at Newtown Park, It's much better when they squeeze in at Farrington Field.
- Curtain raisers, may help for TV coverage but chances of watching them are limited as people have a routine for A-League match days.
- Having to preview the Weenix when I'm probably a Teedubs fan first!

How will you do this season?

Win some lose some. The challenge of a reserve team are that players will come and go and the sides strength will vary. The side this season will be younger than last year with a generation moving on and the next generation coming in. Suspect mid-table mediocrity with some great wins and some horrific losses.

THE TOP 4

The respondents were asked to pick their top 4 (in no particular order).
The Top 3 were pretty certain with everyone picking Team Wellington & Auckland City
and 8 picking Waitakere United.
Canterbury United edged 4th spot just one vote ahead of both Hawke's Bay United and Eastern Suburbs
Other votes went to Tasman United (surprisingly not from the Tasman fan!) and
Southern United (not surprisingly from the Southern United fan!)
